Horse Slaughter Prohibition Bill

Post by DarkChylde on Tue Jan 22, 2008 6:53 am

While I actually don't get active in alot of things, the horse slaughter issue in the US is one near and dear to my heart. Since I know many on this forum are opposed to slaughter, I thought this may be of interest. Unfortunately, only US citizens can call thier senator (mine is on speed dial) but you can get the word out as well.

This came in from a group I am with called the Wild Horse Preservation Campaign. Thanx for your help and interest.

This Tuesday, January 22, is National Call-In Day for Horses: please call your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators and express your support for the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (H.R. 503/S. 311) which would end the transport of American horses for slaughter in Mexico and Canada.

While our Campaign?s main focus is on keeping wild horses in the wild, we must also ensure that the thousands of wild horses unnecessarily rounded up each year do not end up over the border at Mexican or Canadian slaughterhouses. Although the last remaining U.S. slaughterhouses have closed their doors, slaughter remains our wild horses? greatest threat once they have been removed from the range. Nothing the Bureau of Land Management says or does will change that sad reality.

Please visit www.congress.org and enter your zip code to locate your federal legislators. Remind them that horse slaughter is NOT humane euthanasia and that America?s wild horses are also being slaughtered - we should not allow these living symbols of our Nation to end up as a gourmet meal for diners in Europe and Asia (which is where horse meat is exported to).

On behalf of Amerca?s horses, thank you for your support.

In France, if you order steak, you are likely to get horse meat. It is one of the most popular meats there! What a Face

The following is from the 'Guardian' Newspaper (UK):

On the marble slab of his butcher's shop in central Paris, Jean-Pierre Houssin is rearranging his horsemeat. He has horse sausage, Normandy horse joints for roasting, and filet steaks, but his biggest seller is minced horsemeat, to be eaten raw as steak tartare. "It's very healthy - it's high in iron, less fatty than other meats and low in cholesterol. I eat it regularly," he says. Outside, three golden horse heads and a cutting by a food critic entitled "Why I eat horse" signpost the popular shop.

What with this, frogs legs, and snails - EEEEEEK!!! Evil or Very Mad

They certainly need some PLU Very Happy

I personally don't want to eat anything that had parents, and Americans enjoy thier blood lust as well...
I would try to get the worms OUT of my body, not put them in -blech!! And frog legs just SOUND disgusting, and eating snails (my worm comment) would be like eating boogers, I would think - but like caviar, it is the 'looking all that' is probably another reason....
Humans are so evolved- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Razz Razz Razz (Me make funny!)
