Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.

Post by David Ben-Ariel on Tue Apr 01, 2008 11:48 am

Yesterday my friend Roger and I were blessed to visit Arlington National Cemetery and see the John F. Kennedy memorial, Arlington House (the Robert W. Lee Memorial), Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (with the changing of the guard ceremony), and then cross the Potomac River to Washington, D.C. that is in full bloom with its Cherry Blossom Festival.

We were able to visit the Jefferson Memorial, the Washington Monument (didn't get to go up in it because the tickets are only available in the early morning on a first come basis), the Lincoln Memorial, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall, Three Soldiers, and everything in between, with the cherry blossoms everywhere appearing as one big pink cloud or cotton candy. (I was disgusted to see they plan on polluting the park with something for MLK).

We saw lots of Asians, heard some German, a little Italian, Spanish and Russian or something, and whatever else. Considering all the foreigners, I told Roger, "It's a great day to be an American!" and was happy to be able to visit our historic sites that Americans have seen all our life in books and pictures or on television or in movies.

We took a break from our historic gauntlet and had coffee at Caribou's and then ate at Potbelly Sandwich Works just on the corner from the White House. I was very pleasantly surprised we were able to eat and have a drink for under $10.00. I thought everything would cost us an arm and a leg like New York probably does.

We went to view the White House (I understand from relatives, I'm a collateral descendant of 3 American presidents, John Adams, John Q. Adams, and James Buchanan), front and back, and saw plenty of tourists, and only one protester directly in front of the White House gate with calls to impeach Bush and to learn how at some myspace.com address.

The first time I was in Washington, D.C. was to join with pro-life people protesting Bill Clinton's inauguration where we held 4 foot posters of "Baby David" to remind folks of how gruesome abortion is and how it must end.

My Christian friend Carl and I had gotten somewhat lost and ended up very briefly in the ghetto area, rot so near the heart of our country, a black blight. Thankfully, Roger and I went through some of the nice and well kept areas en route to the sites.

This time, at least I had a chance to see some things other than the Washington Monument and the presidential motorcade (I hope my pictures turn out good), although everybody says you could spend a week alone in the Smithsonian, etc. I hope to return and have a proper tour of the White House and see much more.

May God bless America, this land that I love.

That's true and our insensitive government is so sensitive to FOREIGN needs/greed, generous with American tax payers' money.

i had high hopes as spitzer really had allot planned for the county i live in,now who the hell knows . there are 2 empty factories i have often said im gonna buy one ,hire single mothers ,and let them work tag team with other moms to cut day care costs. we would make pencils so when our children bite them during tests the dont get lead poisoning.so much of our local employment is outsourced to china.. and so on.we have shotages because our wheat goes else where. a roll of real copper pennies are worth more than a dollar is.this is disgusting i do love my country, but i love my poppy more and it kills me to watch him cry at 87 years old and tell me how he dug coal after school .how if he was lucky enough to get a vegetable in his broth during the depression , he would give it to his baby sister ,so she would not starve and die like the neighbor baby did. the poor houses were real not some saying.this country was built by my granpa and many others like him ,my pop flew in WWII with Yeager he was a bombardier. i have his dress uniform .him any his kind are the last of a breed of people we may never know again, he and they are why i am proud of America, it really makes me sick ,the middle class no longer exists, if they do it is on credit cards and a lie and they will fall hard.it makes me sick that people have to choose between heat ,food health care ,gas for there car so they can work to by more gas so thy can work to by more gas.the fed chair men still thinks a recession is possible, were the f@%$#k has he been under a rock in the bottom of the ocean abyss? we are becoming a slave nation the patriot act is a joke. but what kills me is watching my poppy think he and his comrades who worked and slaved to live and make this a great country ,seem all in vain as he sees his great grandchildren's future as a hard and bleak one. this man cries as he tells me listen stephie, learn to conserve ,garden . he told me how his mom made soap, and made clothes out of flour sacks.he says i need to know how to get thru and be resource full, GOD this kills me , this country as a whole is so damn ignorant and waste full
this is all without going into the topic of the vile pharmaceutical industry. i better stop here i cannot find my soapbox

Well, if one really wants a future for this world, it would seem genuine Theocracy would be the only happy solution ~ and I do not mean a political theocracy as in places like Iran, but the REAL THING. But that would require EVERYONE in the world recognizing and experiencing the SAME ONE TRUTH at the same time. Will that ever happen?

PLU Very Happy

what will happen

Post by sopherim7 on Thu Apr 03, 2008 8:34 am

scratch .............. Idea i do not think it will..... Sad Crying or Very sad pale Mad ...... this country needs and DESERVES a HARD CORE WAKE UP!!!!!!!!. Exclamation and i do believe we are going to see it very, very
soon. that is the only thing that will get everyone on the same page . that is they only way people will see there equality with one another.its pretty sad that to have unity that makes a difference, is to share in the unity ,that suffering together brings. when that has happend ,what ever it is that is comming that will bring this unity, people will come to know themselves as they are, that will be a big part of suffering, and people will then understand the vaule of all life because they will learn the value of there own life

I voted for Ron Paul in the Ohio primary. He appears too good for America, sad to say and see.
