"Armed with wit, insight, and truly astonishing research, Geoffrey Falk utterly demolishes the notion of the enlightened guru who can lead devotees to nirvana. This entertaining and yet deadly serious book should be read by everyone pursuing or thinking of pursuing the path of guru devotion."

—John Horgan, author of Rational Mysticism

This quote is from one of the admirers of the book in question. While I fully agree that there are many many charlatans pretending to understand and teach about God (mostly within orthodox religions), and that we must be extremely careful not to get drawn into their net of illusion, I also know that there are always genuine Spiritual Teachers (Enlightened Gurus) sent by God.

I wonder what Geoffrey D. Falk or John Horgan would have thought about the genuine (historically accepted) Masters if he had lived during their lifetimes. Would he have said the same (i.e. "utterly demolishes the notion of the enlightened guru... ") in response to Yehoshua (as the Pharisees did), or to all the many Hebrew Prophets, or other great Spiritual Masters of history?

Be very careful about rejecting a Master ~ as indeed about accepting one!

Well, from what I read, the book, it's kina "mainstream", if you know what I mean. But it's pretty interesting cos it shows how some people idolize certain gurus even amidst allegations and proof that they're not so "spiritual". If you get the chance to read any of it, I personally liked the articles about the Dalai Lama and also Zen Buddhism. They always seem like such innocent spoiritual Institutions, but I suppose there is always gonna be some bad eggs.

I read the book rational mysticism by John Horgan, likely three or four years ago. I had also prior went on a mission similar to his. What it showed me is that our physical senses can be altered, especially sight and perception. The thing is that we make the image we see according to how well our tool is working that takes light in and forms our picture, it seems that we have our tool set at a certain level of the spectrum of perception naturally, or atleast close to one another if we are in normal functioning and can draw the same basic structure of an image or name shapes and colors.

I think all that application of outer chemicals and vegetable drugs in no way brings us closer to what is sought by those who seek the kingdom within, but that is my view.

It seems that the harder we work and put in effort the greater the accomplishments achieved, so it likely takes years of practical application to even get past the prepatory stages. It seems we need to bring under our control our thoughts, emotions and actions to even begin self mastery in the first degree.

About the guru thing, I would not believe or disbelieve, but keep my eyes open. I agree that there is always going to be some bad eggs, I have met a couple.

I remember a friend told me a joke about a guy drowning, a boat came by and offered him help, he said no thanks God will help me, then another boat came, he said the same thing, then another. When he drowned he seen God and said God why did you not help me? God said I sent three boats to help you but you refused.
