BALUT & HOT-DOGS ~ the Evils of Animal Abuse

Post by Admin on Fri Feb 15, 2008 8:11 am

My 10 year old son goes to a Catholic school (Caritas Don Bosco) here in the Philippines (basically because there is no non-religious school in the area). Two weeks ago the school celebrated its 14th Anniversary, and had an open day with all sorts of displays, activities, and fun.

The prizes given for one of the games were baby ducks (not more than a couple of days old). My son 'won' one, as did many other children from all grades (1-6, i.e. from 5 years old, and up). I saw many young children there that day unconsciously torturing these poor baby creatures.Crying or Very sad

When we arrived home with our 'unexpected' duck, I immediately went to purchase the needed things ~ proper food and scratchpen (large run around cage). Now, two weeks later, the duck has grown to about three times the size, and is very happy as a pet.cheers

I asked my son to ask his classmates who had also 'won' a duck, what had become of it. He came home with the answer that not one was still alive!Mad

This is the general standard of animal care in the Philippines. In fact, one of the local delicacies is balut ~ SEE (CLICK) HERE! (we actually named our duck 'balut'Laughing). Dog is also a local snack delicacy ~ SEE (CLICK) HERE! (I seriously wonder if the name 'hot-dog' originated here Question).

Anyway, to sum up the situation, I wonder how a religious school could condone the giving away to very young and insufficiently supervised children, baby animals of any kind?

Of course most Christians (who have no food restrictions of any kind ~ unlike all other religions) believe that God has given man everything to do exactly as he wishes.Twisted Evil

Bob, Many blessings and strength to you for holding the course within a Hostile traditional invironment. Seeing the reality of things, and what men take as an every day happining without a thought is truly astonishing each time, although we have seen it many times before ayy?
Since taking on the boards about the animal issue I have since turned Total vegatarian , about 2 months now. Eith the right motovation iisn`t at all hard to accomplish.
Do you own a Dog there Bob?.. I could imagine how it would be, being so close to it all there, although hearing of the illigal Dogs fights here in the US isn`t a comforting thought either. I have one name Buh bah lol hes a quity 1.5 yr black lab... after my other one past recently (Bear).

I guess the truth can be very enlightening on many levels we are apart of.
Knowing there will be a finish to this contest Here, this is one truth here that makes all that fit in a balanced way alittle.

Much oneness be with you Bob

I was a fish-only veggie for years, but I am a complete vegan now, and a bit of a curiosity. My 6 year old still thinks a sagattarian doesn't eat meat... Laughing
I abhor what is done to animals, in this country AND abroad, and unfortunately not just for food, often for cruel sport. I am particularily involved in the horse thing, both outlawing slaughter of horses in this country (I'd like to outlaw ALL slaughter, but unfortunately I can't impose my dietary restrictions on others, so in other slaughter I fight for rights and humane treatment for slaughter) but also protest the cruelty of rodeos, gaited horses 'big lick', as well as a host of abuse I see that I NEVER stay silent on (and have about been in physical confrontations with very large men, I am barely 4 ft 2 and 115 lbs). I am also in the Humane Society, ASPCA, Defenders of Wildlife, the AWHPC (American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign) and a host of others, as well as real active with USERL (United States Equine Rescue League), my big local horse rescue I volunteer for. I would do more, but my time is squeezed, going to school for RN and working full time in home health care AND being wife, mother, and horse-owner of 2 of my own monsterbrats (horses).... We also have 2 cats. We can't have a dog, I can't cage one or chain one, and the road we live on is BAD. I have buried 7 cats since I have lived here.... We had a parakeet that hung out on our chandelier, but one of the cats snuck in and killed her 3 months ago. We used to have house cats all the time, and we have fought fleas every year, and now we decided no cats or dogs in the house (unless they get hurt, we have one that got stepped on by one of the horses and had to stay in for a few months.) I don't fight my husband on this, I have put him thru hell with my pets for over a decade...
We also had a duck, one of Skye's (my oldest's) friends had a duckling, and the mother was sick of the poop and they lived in town. They knew we had a farm so they gave us the duck. I had to stay with her outside as the hawks in our back pasture came the closest they ever had, they wanted duck. The hawk is my totem so I could do them no harm, but I would keep the duck with me, we named her Quackers. I think she was a mallard. She grew up, sassy fat thing, I loved her little tail wiggle she did when she was happy, and the way she would groom my right ear when I was sunbathing, and her little honks and toots. Right at Halloween I was hanging out some clothes and went inside to get another basketful and the postman came tearing down the drive (as he usually does) and handed me a package and I thought nothing of it. We later discovered he had ran over the duck. It was really sad, and I was pretty miffed, the moron had done backed into the fence and I had to replace a whole section of fence, plus my mail is always really late, we are at the end of his routeand don't get mail everyday, but alot of mail every 3 days.... Quackers was Skye's duck, and she was truly broken hearted. Now I have to get her a duck to replace Quackers, and get my littlest, Trinity, a rabbit to replace the one who has moved into the woods (we let the rabbit run loose, she lived under the barn until she dissapeared and I saw her in the woods behind us) this spring, probably for Easter (we used to celebrate Imbolc/Ostara, now we have a combo-holiday).
I am now told my mother is bringing 2 mini goats to the girls this spring. They will stay in the pasture with the horses, and graze it down better as they eat what the horses won't. I am sure they will have some strange names.
We have Chara (Gaelic for 'friend') the mare, Odin the paint gelding, Kittie-poo and SunnyBunny the cats. Soon we will have another duck and rabbit, and 2 goats... Plus a skunk I consider my pet (he is really wild, but he likes me), almost completely white, he's really pretty. I call him Snowy. I haven't named our hawks, they hang out at the back of the property... We have lots of other animals, but not regulars...
Due to all my animal friends (I have spiders in my house with names) I really can't stand cruelty and abuse to ANY living thing. Maybe viruses, yeah, you can be mean to viruses... Razz

My My DC, It sounds like you have got a wide variety and abuntance of life there to say the least ayy? Good for you.
Ya I myself have never killed any animal, I think the closest was maybe burning ants with a magnifying glass as a youngster Rolling Eyes .. As an Eagle Scout and a Brotherhood memeber of the order of the arrow (thats the Indian side of scouting) and many years as leader... the respect for all creatures is always at my front.

I tell people about my Vegatarian Thing now and they start talking about food and meat comes in the discussion rather quickly every time. And I kinda give them an eeewww... face kinda. Only realy so they ask why.
I tell them3 things that has made many think twice now

1. Do you know that Otopseoies can determind that cell tissue has been under stresses when killed. of course they knew that ..LOL

2. then you say So don`t you think a Pig, or sheep or chicken know they are on death row with all the screms of thier brothers, also? .... then they think Rolling Eyes Shocked cyclops affraid Question

3. then all you say is...." THEN YOU EAT IT"

I tell them now thats sick... the old shock and awe does it fairly well for me lately. Tell em go have some more bacon... and try and be happy....LOL thats heavy guns LOL

If You have time one can quote Gosple of Thomas with the Lion scripture of Christ...That would realy complete the connection Mentaly... with Hearing Christ, which is fine.

Do you recall any KJV scriptures that parallel this... then you can even keep them with thier cover sheet ya know. This may be another way to help give them the key for getting out of Slavery.

We can only Try.... Brother Thomas

I am eating cold vegetarian pizza for breakfast as I type.

I have been really suprised by how health conscious every one around me gets. My hubby eats mostly fish and some fowl now, (he was nothing but steak and pork and eggs when we first got together), my kids will just as frequently opt for the vegetarian fare as any other and the disabled lady I am doing home health care with has gone on the NutraSYstem thing, and I was amazed to discover she had ordered the vegetarian one! My step son is convinced I will die of lack of red blood cells or something soon, my better and improved health is suprising to him.

I see the dead, the corpses, and despite that they are deep fried and covered in breading, it is just a burnt corpse, and I can't eat it. I saw this nature thing with a baboon who had taken a newborn tiny deer, and had ripped it apart and begun eating it with the mother looking on in impotent horror, and the baboon was peacefully eating away.

I guess I see all flesh as it could be my little ones, and the messes with me now...

Beans rice and vegetable and salad for me tonight. I own five animals who let me share the house. I can not comprehend the cruelty and neglect that goes on within the world. The thought of my dogs or cat being a food source makes me sick to my stomach. I hope every day it will end, but the state of the world today everyone always justifies their neglect and barbarianism.

How in the Sam hill did she get away with one hundred dogs and no one knew. What happened to the dogs, no don't tell me as I will brood on it. It is good she took care of them but there are some people they call them hoarders who do not. What a crazy world we live in.

every body knew but we all thought it was like 10 - 20 not over 100 . she took care of them, in her way they were her family ,
alt of people stepped up to the plate on this. they were well fed fixed and taken care of so they let her keep 7 and the rest went to many area shelters and most if not all got homes. she had 8 or 9 different vets , and shot/vaccine records for all of them
they were obviousley her life and all she had in the world. only a few were out in the yard at a time. the stench could be smelt in the summer time 2 miles away and finally after years of trying, some body called and said the stench was so bad and they had not seen her in a few days so they thought she was dead and police went by and that is when she got busted

Thank you for clarifying. That poor woman, she must have been so lonely. I am glad the dogs were okay and that she got to keep some. It is nice to hear there are people who love and care for our little helpless creatures. Makes one know there is hope, with people like that in this world.
