GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT

Here is a question that i am looking forward to some discussion about. How do you define gifts of the Spirit?I often have the experience where i am realising that i am being led sometimes compelled to speak something particular to someone,quite often i don't even know them,there are two common reactions. 1 " are you a psychic?" or they kinda nod and smile like your a psyco.at times you see them again ,then they say " you are a freacken psychic", and sometimes you don't see them again, iat times will see there face in my mind ,not even knowing there name or where thy are from but i will pray as i believe God is stirring my spirit in me to do it. i say to them NO iam not a psychic, but God knows you and loves you and it is in my heart to say this because of the love of God in my heart to you. i tell them to seek him , just pray,talk to him be your self there is no formality in your own expression. i believe it is part of the collectivness and connectedness of being,together in God and because of his Illuminating Grace am able to recognise the moment like waking up from a deep distant sleep to realise your presence in the now to DO something,{ Passerby tells me it is becoming male..ha,ha}i am thankful to recognise this,aspect of my being for what it is by name as knowing your self ,each part has a name ,each one has a function and is called by name, NAME . That leads me to the phenomenon of name, numerology, and its accurate function ,in a way it is so super natural and yet so naturals prophecy in dreams and visions.propchey has several definitions to exhort and edify in time, and ahead of time ,or to speak about events yet to be ,it is social as well as personal and political, ezekiel and isaiah are my examples we can also add danieal ,personal prophecy usual mirrors the ongoings of the world. there is so much about these Gifts. i also believe that God created everyone with this capacity ,only some are able to grasp and utilise them ,then to learn how to use them as god wills.that only comes thru much prayer and introspection with him in the innermost chambers of the heart, this is why i want to be a nun sometimes... to bad i love sex { not casual, as iam in a long term monogamous relationship , dont get me wrong}, but to be able to just spend all my nites and days with him alone would be so truley amazing. i have seen that this also is very selfish as we cannot shine his light for all to see if we keep it for ourself.well i am gionna stop here.

The only gifts from God that I am consciously aware of are HIS LIGHT, HIS NAME, HIS HARMONY, and HIS NECTAR - which gifts, when experienced, bring about true SPIRITUAL LOVE, UNDERSTANDING, PEACE, PURITY, and BLISS.

I am not aware of having any 'magical' or extraordinary psychic powers or abilities, only inner Spiritual awareness. I'm just a very ordinary guy.

i really was not referring to any tricks or illusions ,magic. i am speaking about just what i asked, and described above , .... have you ever experienced what i am talking about ? It is most definitely is not magic. The seemingly supernatural things that happen that you cannot explain? i guess unless it is something you have personally experienced, it would be hard to really understand. I know I am not the only one who has these experiences. I have talked about these and other experiences in other posts, like outer body experiences, the celestial singing and such

I notice other people's "demons" speak thru me, and mine speak thru them. They attack the ego, mainly pride and such. This isn't necessarily bad, though, cos it reminds one to place one's treasure in what's eternal, Imperishable. I also notice angels, messengers of Good, speaking thru me to others or other people to me, to inspire and lead on the God Path.

Yes, Sopherim...I have experienced things like that too. In the beginning these events or experiences stood out, but with time they happened more and more often and eventually took over the "norm". Now that which is the norm to most people is no longer the norm to me. I posted on the other thread:"If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything; it is open to everything. In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, in the expert’s mind there are few".

Being in the consciousness of all possibilities...many things are possible....when we move beyond mind....only few things are possible....such as Perfection, Love, Harmony : ) Does that make sense?

I think i do know what your talking about here, although i do think of it as psychic ability, not in a mysterious disconnected from reality sense, but in the sense that we all are connected and i think most people have the ability to tap into that. i think the special part is that some of us are more open to being a channel for this energy. i have had a few experiences where i met someone and completely understood them and gave them a message or helped them work something out. i know i've also been on the receptive side of that energy and received what i needed at the right time from others. In that space, i feel as if my higher self takes over a little more and i feel much more confidant and give great advice. i try to tap into this energy when i read tarot or give advice. You are such a beautiful soul, Sopherim.

I've had such experiences and I was worried afterward I didn't think they "fit" within my religion. My mind struggled for many years on having to deal with it -- Once, I said something to someone and they said "you're omnipresent!". Really freaked me out.

As I came to understand this, if I'm moved to say something from my Inner Voice, there's a reason and I should be curious about this person, say what's on my mind (that I call the "icebreaker") and start a conversation.

Divine Truth usually leads the conversation. After a long time, I've learned not to be anxious about it or the conversation. There is Truth for all to realize, including me.

I define my gift of the spirit as insight. I think this ability falls into that category.

We are all connected. I believe if we weren't, we'd perish.

Eventhough I believe the greatest "gift" is the end of suffering....Jesus did show forth powers beyond what we could call the norm such as walking on water, multiplying food, manifesting healings, psychic ability and the ability to read other peoples minds. After reading this thread I did a little research on the internet and found that Buddism and Hinduism also believes in these "spiritual powers".

May I ask what everyone here understands by such 'material'/'physical'/'psychic'/'mental' gifts ~ are they truly of the DIVINE SPIRIT, or merely of the PSYCHE? i.e. mind over matter.

today at work i came in and told a co worker i prayed about her, because i had her pop in my head she was laying out in the sun i could see the bottom of her calfs and her toes she was using them as if she were snapping her fingers, and i saw a tiny long haired whit dog. this woman is 64 .and we work in a very busy restruant. we are on our feet moving all day.
she says to me " well i be damned yesterday when i got out of work, went to kmart and bought some capries, i showerd and my grandkids got dropped off, so i lounged in a beach chair and got some sun on my legs as they played, she has poor circlation she said so she always,always flicks her toes and she in fact has a small white long haired dog. i shocked her to piecies as that always does me. . she wonders why i got that vision, and what i said to her as i do all those i have this experience with, it is because GOD LOVES YOU he put you on my heart and to;d me how to pray for you as all i could see were your lower legs and feet i prayed for them...... she cried noy because of how psycic i am but because her pain has gotten worse ,she is scared and GOD KNEW IT AND USED ME TO LET HER KNOW HE IS AWARE. .................so..................
Bob you tell me what you think ,because i know that i knew nothing of her other then really work chatter. and i really cannot call it flook because it happens dailey for me and has for many years. i cannot make it happen ,it happens as GOD directs it
i give him all the credit for he is the super - of the supernatrual experience being demonstrated for his glory.
this is a ignorant lost faithless world of people who are truley seeking for signs and something real, that GOD is real that he loves them and cares. religion does not and is not cutting it. i frmley believe that is why so many turn towitch craft , occult and new age instead of seeking GOD.

Well, I certainly believe that there are many great 'physical' and 'psychic' feats that may be achieved by various people ~ what might well be called wonders and/or magic. Such things as levitating, reading minds, picking up past vibrations (as in psychic detectives), producing things from thin air, disappearing, turning water into wine, etc. etc. etc. I have no doubt about such possibilities.

BUT what I do question is WHETHER THESE THINGS ARE TRULY 'SPIRITUAL' AND FROM GOD. If someone can point to any SPIRITUAL benefit coming from any of these things, I will re-assess my opinion.

Bob, do you believe that Jesus preformed these Miracles? And if he did, what reason could he have had other than to show forth the glory of God and help others to grow in faith and "bring them home"?

I don't know much about Gnostic's but I assumed that it followed the way of the Masters. Who are the Masters of Gnostic's?

Personally, although I cannot possibly KNOW for sure, I do not think that Yehoshua/Jesus would have done such mundane "miracles" (tricks) for any reason. Such exoteric tricks (e.g. changing water into wine) certainly do not show forth the glory of God, and Yehoshua himself said something to the effect that it is only evil people who would wish to have such things performed in order to believe. Did he not clearly state that he would NOT do such things? AND that false Messiahs would perform such things in order to deceive everyone (Matthew 24:24)?

The type of people who need to see "magic" (external wonders) are Spiritually immature, and certainly not ready for the ONE TRULY WONDROUS ESOTERIC miracle - the gift of SPIRIT = LOVE / LIGHT / LIFE.

I go by what my Teacher has shown me. He does not perform any exoteric tricks, but he does give the greatest gift of all - LIFE / LIGHT / LOVE. So I believe that Yehoshua would have done the same.

Well, I guess (as I cannot now KNOW) Krishna would have been a Gnostic Master several thousand years ago, as well as Buddha, Zoroaster, Melchizedek, Moses, Isaiah, Yehoshua, Mohammed, Nanak, and countless others who have never come to great prominence.

The point is that religions always follow a dead Master - whilst (to my knowledge) genuine gnostics follow the LIVING. (although many here will disagree with me about this matter).

Hi Bob, Viv & Soph. I do believe in miracles and spiritual giftings, but I don't believe the "miracles" attributed to Jesus in the gospels are to be viewed as "exoteric." It is my stance that one is better suited to experience them than to believe in them as orthodox/exoteric adherents do.


Edit: For example: This wedding feast is the alchemical wedding that takes place between the pituitary and pineal gland.
The miracle of turning "water into wine" represents new consciounsess. Cana is the rod (stream), the spinal column.
