New Member: Priscillian from Spain

Post by priscillian on Tue May 13, 2008 7:08 pm

Dear Members,
I found this forum quite by accident but thought that I could easily find a home here. My leanings are certainly Gnostic but I consider myself a "Smorgasbordian". I like to choose a little of each spiritual plate!
I have recently published a book entitled Pilgrimage to Heresy: Don´t Believe Everything They Tell You. It suggests that it is not St. james entombed in Compostela at all, but a "heretic" bishop by name Priscillian of Avila.
I shall not be able to post here very often, but you can be sure I will be reading and listening.

Hi Tracy, welcome to the site.

Is this your first book to be published? I also had a gnostic reference book published in 2006. I hope that you will find a little time to post here now and then - we'd love to hear how you are getting on.

Welcome to the boards priscillian!!!!
You know that there is only one path to God, but it is laid by many people and not the same for each. It is hard to explain, but maybe one day you will change the way your path is by simply seeing someone smile!!!
Peace and Harmony through Unconditional LOVE!
May the greater power of unity, grace, unconditional love and synchronicity with God be with you today and always.

Hi Pricillian,

I was reading about Pricillian the other day while researching heretics of the Orthodox church.

What I find interesting reading about these "heretics" is that they were not foul-mouthed atheists or child molestors or murderers. Instead, the most hatred heretics were like Pricillian, a bishop who preached asceticism and practiced vegetarianism, abstinence from alcohol and celibacy. And Nestorius, Archbishop of Constantinople, who got himself on the wrong side of orthodoxy because he objected to the veneration of Mary as the "Mother of God". And Calvin's public enemy #1, theologian Michael Servetus whose crime befitting death was to speak against the doctrine of the Trinity.

Pious, gentle, good men and women of faith but with some seemingly small difference in theological belief are those marked for death. As prophesied
"yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.".

Welcome and Peace,
Mark

Blessings and welcome, Priscillian!

I like the term, Smorgsbordian. Besides a gnostic (and beginning Kabbalist) I am part of the Asisians myself (for AS IS). Perhaps you could start the smorgsbordian movement! Razz
So glad you found us!

Very true, Mark, even the Cathars (early gnostics wiped out by the Catholics- in fact, they are the reason the Inquisition was originally formed) were called the 'Perfect People,' and when the final battle in France (remember the town but can't spell it) the cathlics stood with them, so unfair did they think their treatment of their friends. No, molestation and horrific acts were orchestrated by the Catholics against such gentle souls, I hold those who where tortured in the Torture Chair for their 'beliefs' close to my heart.... No

Yes, aren't we fortunate now? ~ for all of us here would have certainly been burned at the stake (or some such horrific ending) by the 'christian' authorities if we had lived at an earlier time. affraid

It is beyond my comprehension how such evil people ever thought they were following God ~ just like those who revert to terrorism today! scratch

Yes, I appreciate every day that I am able to express myself without the terror of the tyranny of the church, or the ORIGINAL 'thought police.' They would LOVE to burn me but that is unfortunately for them no longer an option.... To get the venom thrown at me that I get is only thier frustration at no longer being able to that... Razz

Yep, Bob, that makes two of us. How ANYONE can HATE in the name of ANY 'God' is beyond me.... No

Priscillian and Heresy

Post by priscillian on Fri Aug 01, 2008 2:15 am

Thank you to all of you for your comments and my apologies for not replying earlier. I belong to a few Forums and somehow did not mark down the web address for this one so was very glad to get your reminder! I now have a little bit more time and am researching the second book in the series so will make a point of logging in to see what you are all discussing, though I may not have a lot of time for posts myself.
The older I get, the more Gnosis makes sense to me. Where I live it is high summer in touristville (Marbella, Spain) and there are so many people here who seem to be only concerned with themselves. There seems such a paucity of sympathy, empathy, even courtesy that any kind of gentle message is lost. The Devil takes the hindmost...usually me! I suppose many of us would like to just find that simple little "finca" in a wooded area, with running water, animals around, yet we have to deal everyday with traffic, difficult people, expenses and just the day to day minutiae of living. Perhaps, "you will say I´m a dreamer....
But I´m not the only one"!

Priscillianism and Catharism

Post by priscillian on Fri Aug 01, 2008 2:28 am

By the way, Admin, I think that the event you are writing about is the siege in Beziers when the Catholics and Cathars (7000 is given as the number!) took refuge in the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in, I believe 1209. Arnaud Amery is reported to have said to his men: "Kill them all. God will recognise his own!" I am hoping to explore the similarities between Priscillian´s message and that of the Cathars in a future book as the parallels are remarkable.
