70th Saying of Jesus:
“Jesus said, “If you bring forth what is within you, what you have will save you. If you do not have that within you, what you do not have within you will kill you”
‘what you have will save you’- what is it that we should bring out of ourselves in order for us to be liberated? How is it brought out? What do we do, say and think that brings out the hidden thing out of ourselves? What is the best possible answer? The writings passed down to us say ‘the Fathers kingdom is within you and it is outside you’ so the gnostic will come to know that the kingdom is already with us. The great Gnostic teacher Yeshua provides us with a source of wisdom. For each individual must do as he perceives that he needs to do.
‘what you do not have within you will kill you’- Do we have the ability to destroy ourselves? How do we destroy ourselves? Why do we destroy ourselves? If we have a lacking in knowing ourselves then we run the risk of self-destruction because without self-knowledge we are not aware of who we are. Drinking from the bubbling stream helps us to bring out what will save us, so will not bring out that which will save us, so do now bring out that will destroy us.
Remember the bubbling stream us gnosis and the writings passed down to us. Yeshua imparts the gnosis through the teachings in the writings. If we do not know ourselves then we are ignorant of ourselves. By ignorant I meant that we do not have the self-awareness and are too preoccupied with worldly things and the body. So to bring out what is hidden and to be liberated we have to devote ourselves to the gnosis, the writings and the teachings.

28th Saying of Jesus:
“Jesus said, “I took my stand in the midst of the world, and in the flesh I appeared to them. I found then all drunk, and I did not find any of them thirsty. My soul ached for the children of humanity, because they are blind in their hearts and do not see, for they came into the world empty and they also seek to depart from the world empty.
But meanwhile they are drunk. When they shake of their wine, then they will change their ways.”
‘I found them all drunk, and I did not find any of them thirsty’- When Yeshua came to the world he saw that no one interested in drinking from his bubbling stream of gnosis. People were already ‘drunk’ by their own hands. They were induced into sleep and remained in a state of spiritual unconsciousness. Too long were they drinking from dirty water, water without life, what without truth and water without gnosis. They had no knowledge of themselves and slept in the shade.
‘they are blind in their hearts and do not see’- People were blind so they could not see and know the gnosis. They were blind because they were drunk and dependent on the body and the world. Individuals were without awareness and were without inwards intuition. People may fail to understand the real message of the teachings because they have undeveloped gnosis or have a lack of knowledge in the writings, in themselves and in their potential. To prevent us from becoming blind what are we to do? We cannot Yeshua is person but we can see him with our hearts.
‘they came into the world empty, and they also seek the depart from the world empty’- Do people come into the world with nothing? Are we to leave with nothing? We have nothing with us, just as when a child is born the child has nothing. We are empty handed because we have nothing. We are the poverty and we are born of the poverty and we live in poverty because we are without. Are we the to leave with nothing? Do we leave with something? Do we leave the world with the gnosis and the knowledge? Let there be a universal challenge for everyone; leave with something.

2nd Saying of Jesus:
“Jesus said. “Those who seek should not stop seeking until they find. When they find, they will be disturbed. When they are disturbed, they will marvel, and will reign over all. And after they have reigned they will rest”
‘Those who seek should not stop seeking until they find’- Serious seekers are free to keep searching until they find. Seekers should never stop I their journey because the journey has no end; this journey is highly rewarding and richly blesses the seeker with fulfilment, wholesome liberation of the self ad sanctification.
‘they will be disturbed’- Lets connect this to knowing who you are. Starting to know who you are entails that you will be disturbed. This disturbance is not eternal but is internal. This inward struggle is disturbing as you struggle to find the pearl, the gnosis and the knowledge. The trouble says in the things that hold the seeker back, like emotions. The trouble can also be the dealing with the admittance that you have done wrong, bad thoughts and that we do not really know ourselves until we hear the call and start seeking.
‘they will marvel’- The seeker will be held captive by what he has sought. He or she will be instructed by the very thing he or she was looking for and found.
‘will reign over all’- This is referring to the gnostic who has gained the gnosis, ascends above the order of the archons and has engulfed the flames within. Then do as instructed, bring forth what is within you; bring out the gnosis that has long been dormant, but you have to be troubled to release it.

From the 3rd Saying of Jesus:
“……Rather, the Fathers kingdom is within you and it is outside of you. When you know yourselves, then you will be known, and you will understand that you are the children of the living Farther. But if you do not know yourselves, then you live in poverty and you are the poverty”
‘when you know yourselves, then you will be known’- What do we need to know about ourselves? What is this knowledge? Is it that we must know from where we come and where to we go? Is it that we become aware ourselves, our strengths, our weaknesses and who we really are? And when we know ourselves then we will be known, but who will know us? Is it that the Farther will know us as soon as we begin the know ourselves? The Farther is so far away and yet so close.
By ‘children of the living Farther’ it is meant that that we are not created directly from him or of him. This means that we look to him for support in knowing ourselves and for support as we continue our journey. We are humanity and He is the Farther, He desires for us to know ourselves so that we can know him.
‘But if you do not know yourselves, then you live in poverty, and you are the poverty’- This is relatively simple: if we lack knowledge of who we are then we are in poverty. If we lack knowledge of the gnosis and I we lack the knowledge of the things that we ought to know then we are the poverty. If we do not know what is within us then we are the poverty. So there is another challenge: to triumph over the poverty and know who you are.

Re: 1st Commentary of the Gospel of Thomas-Part Two
These are all wonderful sayings.
#28 talks about drunkeness. I can relate to this - as I used to drink almost daily (while, of cause, denying that I drank too much). For me this speaks about drunkenness in the ways of the world - sin. The love of the world, the pride of life and all the lusts of the flesh are so intoxicating that it is impossible to see rightly in that frame of mind. Alcohol is one of these intoxicants, but certainly not the most potent.
But when shocked out of these, these intoxicants are shown for what they are, and they lose their allure. Then one ceases from the drunken stupor of carnal life, and has hope to change one's ways - ie repent.
I really love #2.
Peace.

Shalama and Blessings Unprofitable Servant,
I have often used 'drunk' with the intended meaning that people are asleep and are spritually in the poverty and part of the poverty.
When we wake and sober up, we then realise who we are and seek from where the Call was issued from.
Kindest Regards and the Warmest Affections
Peace
Andre
