Who is Jesus Christ ?

Post by Admin on Thu Nov 15, 2007 2:18 pm

Why do Christians use the word "Christ" (which is a Greek translation of the Hebrew for "anointed", i.e. Messiah) as a personal 'surname' for their Master? Even His given name was never Jesus (another Greek transliteration). He would have been known by His original disciples as Yehoshua ben-Yosef (in English: Joshua son of Joseph). So why do we not use the standard English term for his true Hebrew name i.e. Joshua? Also, the term Messiah means 'anointed', as a Holy 'Priest-King'. It is not a name, but a 'title'.

Both the name Yehoshua (Eng. Joshua), and the title: Messiah, were by no means exclusive to the man we now call "Jesus Christ".
