While I was writing my book (between 1982-1995 ~ while in the UK), I collected a vast library of religious texts and reference books (about 200). But when I decided to move to the Philippines I sold the lot. Now I have none. The internet provides all one actually needs for reference. I don't rely on scholarly texts, I prefer to look at the sources for myself, and come to my own conclusions. Most scholars (and their books) are not 'Spiritual' ~ and therefore cannot grasp the deeper meaning of many things.

Re: The tiny library of the DarkChylde
You are right! I just thought I would share the books I have enjoyed. Still have to add yours, tho....
I also have MOST of the Harry Potter books, almost all of Anne Rice's stuff, LOTS of books on magick and witchcraft, and the better part of my library is dedicated to horse 'stuff.' My husband has a bunch of masonic stuff (father was a mason, he has all his books).
My hubby knows that my favest gift is a book, I have a LONGGGGGGGGG list of the ones I still want.... Easy to shop for, anyhow.

Hi DarkChylde,
On the Gospel of Judas Iscariot, I find April D. Deconick's view compelling, i.e., that the National Geographic version was poorly translated and they drew completely the wrong conclusions.
What's your viewpoint on this?

Peace,

Hi Mark
This is news to me, and very interesting indeed. I have not read the 'Gospel' Text myself (just viewed the TV documentary). However, it seems that the new translation does confirm one very important (to me) finding:
"Whoever wrote the Gospel of Judas was a harsh critic of mainstream Christianity and its rituals. Because Judas is a demon working for Ialdabaoth, the author believed, when Judas sacrifices Jesus he does so to the demons, not to the supreme God. This mocks mainstream Christians’ belief in the atoning value of Jesus’ death and in the effectiveness of the Eucharist."
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Thanks for the info, Mark ~ I've just sent her an e-mail invitation to take a look at (and perhaps participate in) this site. Who knows, she might be interested.

Re: The tiny library of the DarkChylde
Hi, Mark!
I love April Deconick, I subscribe to her stuff from time to time. I think the NGS was more or less seeking to validate its historicity, so that people couldn't say it was modern or a forgery. As far as translation, while the words were probably gotten right, the interpretation of the text will always be relative to the reader. I have given it a study, I like Ehrman's work, while I know many discredit him on BOTH sides, but I tend to put more stock in scholars that work on thier own research rather than those who seem to exist simply to debunk others. I think it is fine to say 'this is my view' or 'this is my interpretation,' but someone who seems to solely base thier own work on debunking someone's research I tend to skip over. That is a tool of the orthodox as well, to claim 'false teachings' and crap. I take everything at face value and with a well tuned bs detector... Even Ehrman's stuff.
